ARENDAL / OSLO (AP) Justice Minister Grete Faremo (Labor) said Thursday that police Øystein Mæland has resigned.

- I've just been informed that he has resigned from his position, says the Defence Minister on the party leader debate on Norwegian TV tonight. There was a surge through the hall when Faremo informed Mæland departure.
